Translated from the French by Henry Hunter, D.D. … London: Printed for John Murray, No. 32, Fleet-Street; H. Hunter, D.D., Charles’s-Square; and T. Holloway, No. 11, Bache’s Row, Hoxton. MDCCLXXXIX. The English translation of Lavater’s famous essays was issued in parts from January 1788. This engraving illustrated Essays on Physiognomy (Vol II, facing p.285, plate 79 (Issued in part no. XVII, Dec 1790). The publication went through at least ten editions. This page is probably from a later edition given the watermark.
